Abdul Yare

My family moved to Australia from Somalia seven years ago because of the war.

We came here for a better life and education. We still have relatives over there and I have kept in contact with some of my friends, occasionally I speak to them on the phone.

I had to learn English so that was very difficult to begin with. Now I'm pretty confident with it.

I want to study biomedical science and become a doctor.

I like it here but I do miss Somalia. I want to go back there and help people. My parents think that's a good idea. I haven't been back since we moved.

In my spare time I like playing indoor soccer with my friends.

I've got a lot of SACs on at the moment; everything is a big rush.

Abdul Yare is studying year 12 chemistry, physics, further maths, health and human development and English as a second language at Gladstone Park Secondary College.
